Our open source package Laravel Posthog has passed 130,000 downloads. What started in 2023 as an internal solution for our own products is now used by Laravel developers around the world to integrate product analytics and feature flags into their applications.
Why we invest in open source
Our software runs on open source. Laravel, PHP, PostgreSQL, Redis and countless packages form the foundation of the applications we build every day. That's why we actively contribute to that ecosystem ourselves.
With Laravel Posthog, we share knowledge gained from building our own SaaS products. Instead of every development team rebuilding the same integration, there is one well-maintained, freely available solution. That saves the community time and raises the quality of integrations across the board.
Continued development with the community
Publishing a package is one thing; maintaining it properly matters just as much. Since its launch, Laravel Posthog has kept pace with every new Laravel release, up to and including the current Laravel 13. It has also been extended with functionality users asked for:
- Company-level insights, so B2B software measures not only user behavior but also which organizations use a product.
- Faster, more efficient feature flags, so applications send fewer requests to PostHog and respond more quickly.
- More configuration options, so teams can tailor the integration to their own infrastructure.
Many of these improvements came from user reports and suggestions. That interaction is what makes open source valuable: users help improve the product, and everyone benefits.
Quality as a starting point
Because the package runs in production environments, we hold it to the same standards as our own software: automated tests, static code analysis and semantic versioning. Updates are designed so users can upgrade without changing their existing code.
